I understand, and there’s a place for that in some packages [mainly open-source stuff where most folks are pretty understanding that people are doing this for the love and the desire not the bucks]. But if you replied that way to someone requesting FL support … you’d probably lose a customer and, worse, maybe piss them off to the point where they write negative things about you.
[And I say that as someone who got very pissed at an indie devleoper last night, someone to whom I’ve donated money in the past. I was so torqued that it powered me through a two-hour uninstallation and database table dropping session that kept me up way past my bedtime.]

Yes, I was referring to the open source work that I do. On occasion, I get personal requests for features/support of an open source product, and gently prod them toward the user mailing lists.
