One remark to the crazy types out there that think everything on the internet should be free: It isn’t, and it won’t ever be, so get over it already. Do you honestly thinking hosting and maintaining any web service/application is free? Think again. It just happens to be subsidized in some way as to make you pay somewhere you wouldn’t notice. Think about it for a bit. Every web service out there has to sustain itself somehow. I repeat, think about it.

Good point! The closest thing to “free” on the internet are sites that are subsidized solely by advertising revenue. That seems to be new model for the internet (look at www.myspace.com and www.google.com - two of the biggest web entities in the world)

I’ve just gotten my Web community to near self-sufficiency. Know how that happened? I told them the costs involved.
Now, we’re a non-profit, and also seeking to just break even [or I am, anyway; without a roommate, that server lease is my second-largest bill anymore!], but … still.
