Pick a format (Any Format)

(1:37 pm) Tags: [Software, Site]

After reading Nick Bradbury’s post on choosing a format, I have decided to do exactly that.

I have had only one choice visible, but my head links have contain 3 choices. Today I have removed all but one choice, and that choice is Atom. I am not one to join in the which-format-will-rule-the-world, but I also believe that sitting on the fence helps no one either. So, don’t flame me for the choice that I have made. I merely picked one.

If you know how to find the other feeds, they are there for now while I consider doing redirects as Sam has (I am thinking that I will).

In the future, I am sure there are many converters that could give you the format you really need, if that format is not Atom.

I would do this, and I would do it with Atom, but … WordPress still doesn’t support Atom 1.0. Just as soon as they do so in both their content and comment feeds, everything else will go away for me.

I’m not particularly familiar with the in’s and out’s of each format. Was there actually any technical reason for your choice, or was it actually random (A comes before R and all…)?

Not trying to start a flame fest or anything… just curious. I figure it’s easier to ask you why than actually do the reasearch myself and try to find out. :)

What is it that Atom 1.0 has that 0.93 or the RSS’s don’t that makes it attractive?

I went with atom only a little while back, stopped producing the RSS feed, and did redirects to the atom.xml feed. Actually, they may just be rewrites, but none the less - everyone gets atom.
